Smart drinking water straight from the tap
We used to transport nearly four million bottles of water to our hotels. Per year! That is of course unsustainable, which is why we are now investing in the best water there is – our own tap water.
Scandic Water
From autumn 2008, we will have water dispensers that chill and filter the water at all Scandic hotels. With our own dispensers, we can ensure that valuable minerals and salts are kept in the water you drink. You can have your water still or sparkling, poured directly into our own bottles.
160 tonnes less carbon dioxide
We used to sell around 1.2 million litres of water a year at our hotels. That is equivalent to 3.6 million 33 cl bottles. With our own water, we estimate that we will cut carbon emissions by 160 tonnes per year, based on our earlier volume of sales.
Delicious water in an attractive bottle
Our water bottles were designed by a Swede with an affinity for water. Olympic swimmer Therese Alshammar worked on the bottles with designer Jonas Torstensson. The bottle is made from hand-blown recycled glass and the cap is recycled plastic. One krona per bottle goes to the Scandic Sustainability Fund, which supports initiatives that contribute to a more sustainable society.
Stockholm Water Prize
We at Scandic have long been involved in water improvement initiatives. In 2005, we were one of the founders of the
Stockholm Water Prize, an international accolade awarded by the Stockholm Water Foundation every year. The prize goes to a person, organisation or institution for outstanding achievement in water-related activities.
