We give our hotel rooms back to nature
In 1995, we launched our first ecoroom in the Nordic region, which was a pioneering move. We stood alone in showing a sustainable solution that combined profitability and environmental considerations. And we were still successful in meeting the demand from guests for an aesthetically appealing hotel room. Today, all the hotel rooms that we refurbish or build new are ecorooms.
We choose natural materials
Extravagant waste is no longer fashionable. There is a new definition of luxury that is as much to do with sustainability as with quality. We design all our hotels with consideration for the environment and for our guests. In partnership with architects, builders and suppliers, we choose the most sustainable solutions as regards design and function. All the public areas plus the hotel and meeting rooms are largely decorated with natural materials.
Scandic's environmental building standard:
- All refurbishments and new builds are to be at the cutting edge in terms of minimum environmental impact and sound choice of materials.
- Individual aesthetic or short-term interests must not jeopardise our work on long-term suitability.
- How we build.
- Materials and products to be used must be documented.
- The materials must be energy efficient and sustainable with regard to manufacture, transport, lifetime and recycling.
- Materials and methods are to be chosen for ease of disassembly or removal in the future.
- We try to avoid composite materials.
- Materials which contain substances on the Swedish Chemicals Agency's restricted list or on our own warning list must not be used.
- We do not use materials which may emit potentially dangerous or environmentally hazardous substances or which cause allergies.
- All hotels or building sites are to have a system for sorting waste at source.
- Systems for heating, ventilation and air conditioning must be designed to last for a long time and be simple to maintain.
- We prioritise environmentally certified materials, since their environmental impact has already been assessed by an expert organisation.
Using our influence on our partners
Scandic's hotels are often housed in rented premises. We are therefore constantly influencing our partners, including property owners, suppliers and customers.
