Save the Children is putting all its expertise into helping the most vulnerable victims - children. The reconstruction work after the earthquake in Haiti will take a long time and require huge resources.
It took less than 40 seconds to change an entire country. When the earthquake hit Haiti, tens of thousands of children were orphaned. They lost friends, family and teachers, and saw their homes and surroundings destroyed. Emergency measures are underway to ensure that the injured receive medical care and to reinstate the most important social functions. The job of following up on care and reconstructing all the ruined homes will take months and years.
Save the Children is carrying out acute activities in Haiti but is also focusing on long-term aid and protection for children and their families. One important aspect of Save the Children's work is building child-friendly places, where children can feel safe, play and meet friends, and above all get help in recovering from their ordeal.
We at Scandic feel that Save the Children's work is a vital part of the reconstruction work and will be donating SEK 100,000 to the charity. We also urge all out team members and guests to donate anything that they can spare to this extremely important aid initiative.
