Omtanke is a concept close to our hearts hear at Scandic – care and consideration both for people and the environment. Over the years, we have received many awards for our environmental and sustainability work. This shows that we are on the right path and spurs us to take our work on these issues even further. Here are just some of the awards and accolades we and our guests have received for our recent environmental and sustainability work.
Finnish awards 2009
Corporate Responsibility Award
18th of November 2009 Scandic Finland received the Corporate Responsibility Award presented by The Tourist & Convention Bureau of Helsinki. The jury explained their choice with the following statement: “Scandic has been a model of good practice since 1996 with its continuous work in promoting environmental values, as well as social and corporate responsibility.
International awards 2008
Scandic wins an award for its environmental initiatives
In November 2008 Jens Mathiesen, head of Scandic Denmark, recieved the "Climate Reduktionsprisen". The jury explained their choice with the following statement: “Scandic has been a model of good practice since 1996, showing that it is possible to reduce carbon emissions with the help of clear targets and effective measures.”
IMEX Green Meetings Award, Gold
At the IMEX travel and conference fair in Frankfurt in April 2008, Scandic took the Green Meetings Award first prize. The accolade was given to the most sustainable meeting. The reason given for the choice was that Scandic far exceeded other hotel chains in its level of commitment to sustainable practices and the green meeting industry.
Global Tourism For Tomorrow Award 2008, Silver
In Dubai in April 2008, the World Travel and Tourism Council awarded prizes for best sustainability work. Scandic was a finalist out of 150 nominees and won the Silver medal for establishing an impressive sustainability practice in such a large company.

Initiative of the Year
As part of Stockholm County Council’s service awards, known as the "Bemötandepris", Scandic Hotels AB was this year given a special accolade, "Initiative of the Year", in recognition of its successful work on making its hotels accessible to people with disabilities and its unique accessibility standard.
SKD Euroconf’s Environmental Award
"Scandic is a chain that has long led the way and set the standard for Nordic environmental and sustainability work in the hotel and conference industry. Scandic has been given SKD’s Environmental Award 2008 because it also has extremely low average energy consumption per guest."
Honourable mention
In February 2008, Scandic Norrköping Nord received an honourable mention by Norrköping Municipality for its accessibility work in 2007. In consultation with local disability groups, the hotel has managed to create a more accessible environment for everyone with a disability.
International awards 2007
Best CSR Programme
In November 2007, Scandic snapped up “Best CSR Programme” at the Hospitality Awards for its sustainability work. The award was announced in Paris, and the areas on which we were judged were: environment, social commitment, health, accessibility and safety.
The Sustainability Award
At the SLEEP design fair in London in October 2007, Scandic received the “Sustainability Award” at the European Hotel Design Awards. We won it for our significant contribution to a sustainable environment.
Swedish awards 2007
Swedish Recycling Award
Scandic Linköping Väst was awarded a prize by Recycling & Miljöteknik in October 2007. The hotel won for its work on processing food waste for biogas production. “The award acknowledges an initiative that has provided clear eco-benefits and really shows what recycling can achieve.”
Ace of Hearts
Scandic received STIL’s "Ace of Hearts" award for 2007. The prize encourages initiatives that raise awareness of STIL’s core concerns: anti-discrimination, accessibility and the equal value of all citizens. "For the first time ever, the accolade was given to a company and that company’s Disability Coordinator who, with initiative and creativity, has improved accessibility for disabled people."
Jönköping Municipality’s Environmental Award
Scandic Elmia and Scandic Portalen won Jönköping Municipality’s Environmental Award in June 2007. The award is given every year to individuals, associations, institutions, companies or organisations active in Jönköping Municipality. The environmental award is aimed at supporting and encouraging initiatives that contribute to resource management, lifecycle thinking and environmentally sustainable development.
Best Environmental Work
In March 2007, Scandic won the Swedish Grand Travel Awards prize for "Best Environmental Work". The awards were based on Sweden’s largest survey of Swedish travel agents, carried out by Fürst Scandinavian Research. The respondents were asked to spontaneously say who they thought the leading players were in environmental work.

City of Oslo’s Urban Environment Prize
In June 2006, Scandic in Oslo received the city´s Urban Environment Prize, which goes to someone providing a good example of active environmental work in Oslo.
Glass Bear
Scandic Norway won the Glass Bear environmental award in the Tourism category in May 2006. The prize is awarded by the Norwegian Foundation for Sustainable Consumption and Production, whose activities are partly funded by the Norwegian Ministry of the Environment.
St Julian Disability Award
In February 2006, Scandic received the "St Julian Disability Award" from the City of Stockholm for its accessibility work.
