New fund to contribute to a better world
The Scandic hotel chain, which has long been active in environmental and social issues, is now moving beyond its hotel walls and setting up a new sustainability fund. The fund will support different initiatives contributing to a more sustainable development, partly by awarding an annual prize of 100,000 euro.
Scandic Sustainability Fund
The Scandic Sustainability Fund is aimed at supporting initiatives, which in various ways actively contribute to a more sustainable society. Organisations and individuals will be able to apply for grants from the Scandic Sustainability Fund for projects aimed at supporting sustainable development in a broad sense. The fund will support initiatives large and small. The greatest accolade, the Scandic Sustainability Award, will be worth 100,000 euro and will be announced during 2010 at a special ceremony.
The money for the fund comes today from the sales of our new water bottles, designed by Swedish swimmer Therese Alshammar, and from our single "A million candles burning", with the Swedish artist Martin Stenmarck.
Application forms for grants from the fund will be available from our website later.
Who can apply?
Both organisations and individuals will be able to apply for grants.
The Sustainability Fund supports initiatives large and small that contribute to more sustainable development, in the environmental field, or in the fields of social work, accessibility, health issues or safety, in one of the countries where Scandic has hotels.
What are the criteria?
Recipients must already be active in their particular field, and must be able to show previous results and a plan for future activities. Recipients must make a difference to other people, through concrete measures or lobbying. The activities must focus on more sustainable development, in the environmental field, or in the fields of social work, accessibility, health issues or safety, in one of the countries where Scandic has hotels. The prize money and grants from the fund must in some way contribute to the success of the project. A more detailed description will be published here at a later date.
How does Scandic decide who wins the prize or receives a grant?
Scandic is working on appointing a jury, whose task will be to allocate funds to one or more recipients, based on the criteria drawn up. The jury will be presented here.
