Industrial city turned into an exciting city break destination

Tampere Finlayson - copyright Krista Keltanen

Tampere has a long industrial history which can be seen in the many red brick buildings and especially the old Finlayson factory in the city centre where the first electric light in the Nordic countries was lit. The old factory area is now home to several restaurants, a cinema as well as galleries and museums. The theaters and restaurants of Tampere make it an excellent destination for a city break.

Visit the tallest building in Tampere - Näsinneula observation tower located in the Särkänniemi fun park. It´s the perfect spot to enjoy the sceneneries of the Tampere area to its fullest. While you´re here, spend a day in the fun park for a thrilling ride, get lost in space at the planetarium and much more.

A pine tree forest in the city

The Pyynikki and Pispala areas are right next to the city centre. On top of the hill visit the Pyynikki observation tower and walk through the beautiful forest area. Why not start the day with a tour in the jogging trail or skiing in the winter. Then you´re ready for some freshly grounded coffee at one of the cozy cafées. In Pispala you can also visit the oldest public sauna in Finland - Rajaportin sauna. Our hotel Scandic Rosendahl is located in Pyynikki.

The local culinary experiences

The must-taste food while in Tampere is the black sausage or black pudding, ”mustamakkara”. For something sweet, visit the Pyynikki observation tower for its famous doughnuts. The market hall (Kauppahalli) serves many delicacies, and is not to be missed. A new trend in Tampere is chicken wings and locals are convinced they have the best chicken wings!
