If you’re not sure of where to stay or what to experience when in Oslo, we’ve got you covered! Here is an overview of some popular neighborhoods and districts in Oslo to give you some inspiration.
In the heart of Oslo and where chic meets the sea. From upscale shopping to delightful dining, and the Astrup Fearnley Museum of Contemporary art – it's all here! Don't miss Aker Brygge Promenade with cafes, shops, and restaurants. Our most iconic hotel, Grand Hotel Oslo by Scandic, is situated on the main street Karl Johans Gate, only a few minutes walk to attractions and everything Oslo can offer you. Other hotel options:
Gamle Oslo, the east part of the inner city gives you cobblestone streets, ancient buildings, and landmarks such as Akershus Fortress and Oslo Opera House. Akershus Fortress is a medieval castle in the middle of Oslo at the far end of Akersneset. Here you can explore the city's history or enjoy a warm summer day in the sun. If you're an art lover, you're in for a treat if you visit the Munch Museum. It's home to the largest collection of Edvard Munch's masterpieces, including the famous "The Scream”.
The new district of Bjørvika has set sail as Oslo's most popular and exciting district. You’ll find everything from culture and dining experiences to swimming opportunities in the summer. In other words, a district that accommodates everything! It was not too many years ago that Bjørvika was only a container port with the European road running through it. But now the district is an eldorado for those who love modern architecture, exclusive shops and art. Scandic hotels in and around Gamle Oslo and Bjørvika:
Ready for some artsy vibes? Street art, vintage shops, restaurants, and cafes close to the city center. In the neighborhood you will also find Mathallen Oslo. This indoor food market is a treasure trove of global flavors and mouthwatering treats. Scandic hotels in and around Grünerløkka:
Frogner Park – the Central Park of Oslo. Classy, calm, and oh-so-elegant. And the cherry on top? The world-famous Vigeland Park! Get ready to be amazed by Gustav Vigeland's sculptures, such as Sinnataggen and Monolitten, each one telling a unique story. If you are interested in history, you must visit the peninsula Bygdøy south of Frogner and Skøyen and visit the museums Frammuseet and Kon-Tiki Museum. Scandic hotel close to Frogner and Bygdøy:
Oslo is not a large city, and there are short distances from the city to more rural areas. It’s easy to explore the city’s sightseeing’s and different parts by foot or by tram. A good way to get to know the city is from the bicycle seat when the weather permits – a good alternative to other transport in Oslo, and much more environmentally friendly! Some Scandic hotels in Oslo have bicycles that you can borrow for free, and if these are not available, it is easy to rent one from Oslo Bysykkel, which has more than 250 bicycle stations around the city.
Each neighborhood is a unique chapter in Oslo's story, from the ancient tales of Gamle Oslo to the artsy beats of Grünerløkka and the chic allure of Aker Brygge. Welcome to Oslo and enjoy your trip!
