Frankfurt Skyline Dawn

Sachsenhausen for a glass of cider

Frankfurt’s cult district of Sachsenhausen with its narrow, cobblestoned alleyways and quaint locales make a welcome contrast to the city’s customary high-rise image. No excursion to the other side of the River Main is complete without whiling away some time in a quaint Äppelwoi taproom (Äppelwoi is the name the locals give their cider, literally 'apple wine') to the accompaniment of music and a little handkäs (hand cheese), a typical Frankfurt speciality, before letting loose on the lively nightlife.

A boat trip on the Main

No other German city looks so fantastically beautiful from the water as Frankfurt. If you still haven't had enough of the breathtaking city skyline after a stroll over the Eisernen Steg, we recommend a boat trip on the River Main. A boat trip is ideal if you want to see all the most important tourist sights without spending a lot of time and money and if you're looking for a successful alternative to the usual city tour.

Shopping in the Kleinmarkthalle

If you’re strolling through the Frankfurt Altstadt sightseeing, a visit to the Kleinmarkthalle is an absolute must. This historic market is just around the corner from such tourist attractions as the Kaiserdom St. Bartholomäus (Frankfurt Cathedral) and the Römer, the famous town hall dating back to the 15th century. And if you still haven't tried a Frankfurter sausage with green sauce – the definitive regional delicacy – then it's high time to do so at one of the 150 market stands.

Following in Goethe's footsteps

The Goethe Tower in Sachsenhausen, the Goethe Monument near Hauptwache and Goethe University, the birthplace of the Frankfurt School (Frankfurter Schule), a school of social theory and philosophy – Goethe's birth city is packed with memorials to this genius master poet. Of course, Goethe House is an absolute must for anyone with a penchant for sightseeing. A visit to the building where Goethe was born and where he lived for 20 years is truly like travelling into the past, thanks to the loving detail of its presentation.

Taking a stroll through The Palm Garden

The Palm Garden is an oasis of peace and tranquillity right in the heart of the busy big-city bustle of Frankfurt. Both summer and winter, this botanical garden thrills its visitors with the most varied of biotopes and exotic vegetation. The Palm Garden is also well worth a day out with the whole family thanks to its impressive playgrounds and other leisure activities.
