Bodo and Salten
Bodo and Salten have mountains to suit every preference and taste. Here you’ll find approximately 120 peaks 700 metres above sea level, and 30 peaks at over 1,000 metres. There’s a wide selection of guided tours to child-friendly mount Keiservarden or more demanding climbing challenges. From Keiservarden, a classic excursion for Bodo locals, there's a fantastic view over Bodo, the sea, Landegode island and Lofotveggen mountain peaks. Keiservarden is one of Bodo’s most popular excursions, and one of the best places to see the midnight sun on clear days in the summer. With Bodo as your starting point, you also have the opportunity to join an exciting cave tour, because Salten is where you'll find Norway’s best selection of caves – small, large, wide and narrow. Scandinavia’s largest cave, Svarthamarhola, is also here.
When you’re as close to the coast as you are in Bodo, it’s almost a must to get out onto the sea. Experience a fjord safari, sailing, paddling or fishing and get close to the sea eagle, or go on a RIB safari to the world’s strongest whirlpool, Saltstraumen, when it’s at its strongest. Not far outside of Bodo is the best preserved trading post from the 1800s, Kjerringoy. Go ashore here in this picturesque and very charming place. In this compact and varied landscape, you’ll find everything from polished mountains, shiny white beaches, active farming villages, and last but not least the historical Kjerringoy Trading Post. This place has about 350 young and old inhabitants today.
Bodo offers good restaurants, cosy cafés, charming small shops and a rich cultural life. In 2016, the city offered the world’s largest breakfast table, set up by Scandic during the Arctic Race of Norway, for the people of Bodo.
It’s easy to fill a holiday with child-friendly activities in Bodo – you’ll find simple mountain hikes, canoe paddling, beautiful parks, caves, fjord safaris and lots more. Stay at Scandic and use our hotel as your base.
In the winter, you can see the fantastic northern lights dance over the night sky.
