The Stavanger region
The Stavanger region & Ryfylke offer magnificent nature with high mountains and deep fjords, reefs and small towns, sheer viewing points and green valleys. In addition, you’ll find long, white, sandy beaches in the Stavanger region. The Jaeren beaches stretch 70 km from southern Jaeren almost as far as the northernmost point of Jaeren – an excellent starting point for those who like to surf. Throughout the region you're never more than a short distance to the mountains and fjords.
Stavanger and its surroundings have many famous nature attractions including Lysefjorden, Sola beach and the well-known Preikestolen and Kjerag rock formations. Stavanger also offers other cultural attractions and experiences such as the Norwegian Petroleum museum, Stavanger cathedral from the 12th century, Stavanger museum – a collection of several museums, and the Archaeological museum.
If you like to play golf, you’ll be happy to know that the Stavanger region has no less than six 9-hole golf courses and four 18-hole golf courses, seven of which are within a 30 minute drive from Forus. The courses are of professional standard, and are normally open for play all year around – the course awaits you!
