Things to do in Trondheim

Nidarosdommen

Nidaros Cathedral is one of Norway's most iconic landmarks and a must-see for any visitor to Trondheim. Built over the burial site of Saint Olaf, the cathedral is a stunning example of Gothic architecture. It dates back to the 11th century and has been a pilgrimage site for centuries. Solsiden

Solsiden is located in the Lower River Harbor area, often referred to as "Trondheim’s Promenade," former industrial areas that have been transformed into lively spaces with homes, cafes, and outdoor restaurants. This is one of the most popular areas in Trondheim and is also home to Dokkhuset, now used as a concert hall for jazz and chamber music.

Bymarka

Bymarka is a forested area west of Trondheim, perfect for a jog or a relaxing walk in nature. Whether you want to enjoy the scenery or get some exercise, it’s an ideal place to explore.

Climbing Park

Bakklandet

Do you enjoy charming old towns? Then Bakklandet is the area for you. Here you’ll find narrow cobblestone streets, charming wooden buildings, unique shops, and cozy eateries. The way to Bakklandet is via Lykkens Portal, or the Old Town Bridge, and the walk itself is an experience.

Credo

The restaurant Credo in Trondheim is ranked as Norway’s third-best in a Nordic ranking. On its website, Credo describes itself: "At Credo, we offer multi-course menus based on the best ingredients from Trøndelag. Instead of a traditional à la carte menu, we create dishes and menus based on the ingredients available at any given time."

Pirbadet

If you're traveling with children or simply want to enjoy a refreshing swim, we recommend a visit to Pirbadet, Norway’s largest indoor water park. You’ll find everything from wave pools, children’s pools, and health baths to a climbing wall. Located at the transition between land and sea at Brattøra in Trondheim, it’s about a 10-20 minute walk from our downtown hotels.

Kristiansten Fortress

Kristiansten Fortress is the perfect spot for a walk alone, with your family, or perhaps with your dog. It offers great views, green lawns, and many benches to rest on. The walk up is a short, steep hill from the city, and the area isn’t large, but the lovely park around the fortress makes this an idyllic place for a stroll with a stunning view of Trondheim. You’ll also find the Kommandanten restaurant here, where you can enjoy locally sourced food from Trøndelag.
