Things to do in Bergen

Are you looking for the best view over Bergen city, child-friendly activities, or must-see attractions? We have eight hotels in the capital of Western Norway and know the city well.

view over Bergen in Norway

1. Stoltzekleiven

If you take the trip up Sandviksfjellet to Stoltzekleiven, you will get a panoramic view of Bergen. Stoltzekleiven is built with stone steps with about 800 steps, and is a moderately challenging hike. If you want a real challenge, you can try to beat the record time to the top: 7 minutes and 46 seconds!

2. Zipline from Ulriken

Norway's fastest zipline is found on Ulriken, Bergen's highest city mountain! An airy ride with panoramic views via the 300m long zipline awaits you. The adrenaline-filled ride begins in front of the restaurant at Ulriken and heads towards Fløyfjellet. The ride is safely staffed by instructors, so all passengers get help getting on and off.

3. Fløyenfjellet

If you're tempted by a slightly calmer and more social trip, you can take the classic trip to Fløyfjellet, 400m above sea level. You can reach the top either by an hour's walk up Fløisvingene or with Bergen's pride, the Fløibanen. At the top, you'll find both a kiosk and a restaurant with views over the entire city. Fløyen also has a climbing park for children, a zip-line between trees, and canoe rental at Skomakerdiket.

4. Hike in the city mountains

Fløyen is also a very good starting point for longer hikes in the city mountains. Revurtjern is a family-friendly destination at 4.5 km and a couple of hours' walk. For the fittest, the hike over the ridge to Ulriken is nice. The hike takes about 5-6 hours and is almost two miles - a fantastic opportunity to experience the City Mountains! See more hiking tips on the websites of Bergen and Hordaland Turlag.

5. Show packages in Bergen

See a show, concert, or theater in Bergen. Order a full package and get the best tickets and hotels at the most reasonable prices. We guarantee great entertainment, soft beds, and a good breakfast. Order here: showpakker.no.

6. Visit the aquarium

A perfect activity for curious big and small who want to learn more about the sea. Norway's largest aquarium, the Aquarium in Bergen, is one of the city's biggest tourist attractions. You can see, read, and feel the animals up close! The aquarium is located on Nordnes, about 20 minutes' walk from the city park in the center.

7. Explore the Science Center VilVite

Are the children curious about weather, climate, energy, innovation, corrosion, the body, and the sea? Then the popular science center VilVite is perfect! Through interactive installations, you can explore water experiments, robots, globes, and expeditions above and below water. The center welcomes everyone regardless of age or prior knowledge of math, science, and innovation.

8. Let the kids play at Fysak activity house

Let the kids have their dream day at Fysak activity house, with one of the country's largest and best indoor skate parks! Dance hall with mirrors, a simple climbing wall, 100 square meters of gymnastics floor, three beach volleyball courts, and an outdoor bike track are also available!

9. Edvard Grieg's Museum at Troldhaugen

As a tourist in Grieg's hometown, you get a unique chance to visit the Edvard Grieg Museum, the composer's cabin, his former home, and grave site. The museum is located at Troldhaugen, and you can easily get there by taking the city train towards Flesland.

10. See the iconic fish market

Bergen has had the Fish Market since the 1200s, and at today's fish market, you can buy fresh seafood and locally produced farm food such as fruits, berries, and vegetables. Here you get the real Bergen atmosphere included.

Tip: Buy the Bergen Card (Bergenkortet)

It may be wise to invest in the Bergen Card, which among other things gives you a discount on the Fløibanen, bike rental at Fløyen, discounted entry to the Aquarium, the KODE museum, and 50% off entry to the VilVite center. The card also provides free entry to the City Museum in Bergen.
