Shopping in Berlin

Berlin is not only known for its diverse cultural offer and world-renowned nightlife but the German capital is also a mecca for shopping enthusiasts. From small, trendy boutiques to large shopping centers, malls and shopping streets in Berlin.

Shopping in Berlin

Berlin is an especially enjoyable shopping destination. Unlike many other German cities,  Berlin has several centres. This is partly due to historical reasons, with its 28-year division into East and West. Another factor is the size of the capital city and its related infrastructure. To avoid bottlenecks and huge crowds of people in one location, people in the metropolis were spread out through the establishment of different centres. Since the streets of Berlin are often very busy, it makes sense to use local public transport. The underground U2 line links the western and eastern parts of the city and serves the elegant Kurfürstendamm shopping street as well as Potsdamer Platz and Alexanderplatz. It is therefore the ideal way for you to hunt down the most exciting Berlin fashion trends.

Shopping in Berlin – what's where?

Shopping in the western part of Berlin

Around Kurfürstendamm, called City West, visitors will find the old centre of the western part of the city. This area has been experiencing a successful revival for several years. Hip shops have now opened here, alongside luxury brands, to respond to a younger public. Along the 'Kudamm' and Tauentzienstrasse, you'll find the vast and world-famous classy shopping centre KaDeWe, the new Bikini Haus, expensive luxury brands, sports outfitters, classic fashion boutiques and, last but not least, one of the city's shopping landmarks - the impressive Europa-Center.

Shopping in the eastern part of Berlin

The shopping area in the eastern part stretches from Alexanderplatz via Friedrichstrasse to Potsdamer Platz. There is something here for every taste and pocket. The largest selection of shops is in Alexa on Alexanderplatz. Anyone with an eye for the exclusive and expensive should stroll along Friedrichstrasse. Quartier 206 is not just an architectural eye-catcher, but also offers a first-class shopping experience for anyone looking to make a purchase. There are also many places to bargain hunt right on Potsdamer Platz. The Potsdamer Platz arcades and the Mall of Berlin are particularly popular with shopping tourists.
