Over the last few years, Drammen has received a full makeover and is now a modern city with so much to offer. New walking trails have been created, new beaches and piers are in place, and Drammenselva river has been cleaned. Here you can combine modern life with nature walks, fishing, golf and canyoning. In Drammensmarka and Finnemarka forests you’ll have great natural experiences all year around. Here you’ll find a great network of cross-country ski trails, perfect for long or short ski trips in the winter. In the summer, you’ll find beautiful nature trails that you can explore on foot or by bike. There’s a network of forest roads and trails, several viewing points, and opportunities for fishing, swimming and rock climbing.

If you like to fish, then Drammenselva river is the perfect place. The river is Norway’s best fishing river, with a total of 42 proven species, and Drammenselva is also known as one of the best salmon fishing rivers in Norway. Drammensmarka and Finnemarka also have many fishing lakes set in beautiful surroundings.

Spiralen (the Spiral) tunnel is also worth a visit. This tunnel is described as dramatic by CNN, and takes 6th place amongst the world’s most special tunnels. It twists as a spiral, with a total length of 1,650 metres. Spiralen leads to Skansen, where there’s a restaurant, outdoor table service and the best viewing point in the city. Towards the west you can see Blefjell mountain and snow-capped mountain peaks. Drammen open-air museum is located in the area behind Spiraltoppen, where you’ll find a collection of reconstructed houses from all over Buskerud county. Spiraltoppen has a large parking area, and is a popular starting point for hikes in the summer and winter.

The town square has many cafes, bars and restaurants, also with outdoor service, and the schedule is full at Union Scene, where you can see all genres of theatre shows and concerts, as well as attend conferences. The city also houses Norway’s first modern theatre – Drammens Teater.
