Hønefoss is a pleasant city in Ringerike, divided by the river Begna and the Hønefossen waterfall, which can be seen from the city bridge. The city was founded on the north side of Hønefossen and the river, but because of modern development and city fires on the north side, the south side has been continually developed. Sondre Torv on the south side of the river Begna is now considered the city centre.
Hønefoss is a traffic hub in eastern Norway, with good transport connections to Oslo, Drammen, Bergen, Oslo airport Gardermoen and Gjovik. Honefoss is also located along the Bergensbanen railway from Oslo to Bergen, and the European E16 motorway passes the city.
Hønefoss enjoys an idyllic location, with Tyrifjorden and Krokskogen forest right outside the city limits.
