Our hotels in Trondheim
Trondheim is a lively university city, and any visit is not complete without seeing its famous sights including Nidarosdomen cathedral and Erkebispegården (the Archbishop's Palace), cosy shopping streets and piers, as well as its wide selection of eateries. Fishing, hiking, skiing, biking and golfing are among the most popular outdoor activities, but we also recommend shopping and restaurants in the city centre. Our hotels in Trondheim are located in the heart of the city, next to Solsiden, Nidelven river, Bakklandet and Lerkendal Stadium.
Trondheim is a more than 1000 year old city, and now the third largest in Norway. It has gone from Viking city to student city, which contributes to the wide selection of activities on offer. You can easily get to Trondheim by either flying into Vaernes airport or taking the train to Trondheim central station. If you want to stay close to Vaernes, Scandic Hell is located only 600 metres away, and is a perfect alternative for business travellers and families.
For those wanting to stay centrally in Trondheim, there are many options available, as we have 4 hotels in Trondheim city centre. If you want to enjoy an exceptional hotel breakfast, in fact the best one in Norway, we recommend you start the day with breakfast at Scandic Nidelven. Our hotel has won the award for having Norway’s best hotel breakfast 13 times – last time in 2019.
Do you enjoy exploring charming old towns? Then Bakklandet is the perfect place for you. Here you’ll find narrow, cobblestone streets, charming wooden buildings, unique shops and cosy eateries like beads on a string. Check in to Scandic Bakklandet, and enjoy our delicious and healthy breakfast whilst admiring views of river Nidelven. The road to Bakklandet goes via Lykkens Portal (Gate of Happiness), or Gamle Bybro (Old Town Bridge) as it’s also known, which is an experience in itself.
Trondheim is a popular shopping city offering many options. We recommend Solsiden shopping centre that has more than 60 shops and 13 restaurants. Solsiden is also a vibrant area, popular with city locals, tourists and students. For those wanting to stay in the heart of the city, with shopping and night life right outside the door, Scandic Solsiden has the perfect location. If you want to explore the city, you can borrow a bike at the reception.
For those visiting Trondheim who would like to watch a football match, Lerkendal Stadium is where it happens, the home of Roseborg Ballklubb. Scandic Lerkendal is located right next to the stadium and has direct access.
It’s easy to get around town by foot from all our hotels in the city centre, and you can walk to famous landmarks such as Norway’s national shrine Nidarosdomen and Erkebispegården. It’s an impressive sight that's hard to miss, and a must-see when visiting the city. Trondheim is a haven for sports and outdoor enthusiasts, with the large outdoor area Bymarka right outside the city centre. Bymarka is great for walks and runs in the summer, and cross-country skiing in the winter.
