Christmas markets in Stockholm
There’s something special about a Christmas market. Strolling between the stalls reliving the childhood joy of handmade elves and watching the lights turn on as darkness begins to fall. Here are our tips for Stockholm’s best Christmas markets, from the city centre to much further out.
It’s not Christmas without a Christmas market
Långholmen Christmas market
Cosy Christmas market at the old Långholmen prison. You’ll find furnishings, Christmas decorations, flowers and sweets here. You’ll also find activities for all ages. Pop into the café for something delicious to eat and drink.
When? November 30 – December 1, 10:00–16:00
Hovstallet
More than a Christmas market: See the king’s horses and take a guided tour of the royal carriages, used for state visits amongst other things. A blacksmith works in the forge making high quality products. At the Christmas market, browse through a huge variety of different crafts. You’ll even find a food table with all sorts of delicacies.
When? November 28 – December 1, Thursday 15:00–20:00, Friday 11:00–18:00, Saturday 10:00–18:00, Sunday 10:00–17:00
Skansen open-air museum and zoo
Could this be the Rolls Royce of Christmas markets? In the jovial atmosphere that reigns over Skansen, it’s a delight to discover what the roughly 80 stalls have to offer. You can also shop in the districts and workshops as well as take part in other activities such as Christmas crafts, dancing around the Christmas tree and Christmas stories.
When? Every weekend from November 30 to December 14, 10:00–16:00.
Zetas
Zetas is a garden centre in Segeltorp outside Stockholm where you can’t help but be inspired. Aside from plants, their Christmas market also includes arts and crafts, sheepskin, hats. gloves, organic cheeses, pralines and more.
When? November 23–24, 10:00–16:00
The Old Town
The beautiful buildings of the Old Town are the perfect setting for a Christmas market. On Stortorget square you’ll find about 40 stalls selling everything from ironwork and ceramics to sweets and Christmas sausage.
When? Every day November 23 – December 23, 11:00–18:00.
The coolest Christmas market in Stockholm, ABF building, Sveavägen 41
An alternative market, complementary to the traditional Christmas market. A Christmas market right in the city centre selling fair trade products from all over the world, with the aim to enlighten, spread joy and get people thinking.
When? November 30 – December 1, 10:00–16:00
Steninge Castle, Märsta
In Stenladan you’ll find Sweden’s biggest indoor Christmas market, covering an area of 1,500 sqm, so you won’t get cold. You’ll find artisans, shopping and restaurants here.
When? Every day November 16 – December 23, Monday – Friday: 11:00–18:00, Saturday – Sunday: 10:00–17:00
Skokloster Castle
In addition to the Christmas market around the castle courtyard with artisan foods, gingerbread houses and straw crafts, you can visit the castle café or go on a castle tour.
When? November 30 – December 1, 11:00–16:00
Taxinge Castle, Nykvarn
This is where you’ll find 130 of the best artisans in Sweden. In addition to handicrafts, a coffee break is a must. There’s a reason it’s called the cake castle, with the biggest table of cakes in Sweden, everything homemade of course!

Torekällberget, Södertälje
Find out what Christmas was like in a small town in the 1800s. Visit the market on the square with a carousel, Santa Claus, Christmas preparations, games, magic, storytelling and more. Don’t miss the Lucia procession on the 2nd Sunday of advent.
When? Sundays December 1 and 8, 11:00–16:00.
