Bergen and the surrounding region are home to several lovely Christmas markets, each with its own charm and festive atmosphere. Here are some of the most popular ones to add to your itinerary and help you make the most of your next visit.

Bergen Christmas Market

The largest market is the Bergen Christmas Market, which you can find at Festplassen every year. Here you can enjoy traditional Christmas shopping, taste local food, and find unique gifts. In addition, there are also smaller markets offering everything from handcrafted items to Christmas treats.
  • Date: Friday, November 20, 2026 until Tuesday, December 22, 2026
  • Opening hours: Monday to Friday 12:00–21:00, Saturday and Sunday 10:00–21:00
  • Venue: Festplassen, Bergen city center
  • Price: Free entry to the market. Carousels require a separate ticket.

Festival of Lights

Join thousands of locals and visitors as we celebrate the Festival of Lights (Lysfesten) around the lake Lille Lungegårdsvann right in the city center. This pre-Christmas event has become an important and lovely tradition for many. The evening ends with a wonderful fireworks display.

The Gingerbread City

The Gingerbread City (Pepperkakebyen) is the world’s largest of its kind. In November, the citizens of Bergen make their own contributions to this tasteful, magical town. Houses, churches, castles, rockets, and even oil platforms are some of the edible artwork you can find - the creativity is amazing. The result of it all is a mind-blowing fairytale city among mountains, fjords, snow and atmospheric light. You can also have a taste of Bergen’s own gingerbread hearts at the end of the tour. 

  • Date: Saturday, November 14, 2026 until Sunday, January 10, 2027.
  • Opening hours: Monday to Friday: 09:00–21:00, Saturday: 09:00–20:00, Sunday: 10:00–19:00. Public holidays: Varying opening hours. Closed on Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

  • Prices: Adults (from 16 years): NOK 199, Students: NOK 149, Children (under 16 years): NOK 49. Children have free entry Monday to Friday.

Farmers Christmas Market

Christmas market at Fisketorget with Bondens Marked Bergen; with 4 market days from end of November and every Saturday until Christmas. The best way to prepare for Christmas with tasty Christmas food from the region and great Christmas gifts, straight from the producers.

  • Opening hours: Every Saturday from the end of November until Christmas from 10:00–16:00
  • Price: Free entry to the Fish Market (outdoor)
