There are 5 Christmas markets that you should definitely not miss when you’re in Frankfurt.
The Typical Frankfurt Christmas Market
One of Frankfurt’s most beautiful Christmas markets is centrally located between Romerberg square and the city center. The Frankfurt Christmas market is one of the largest Christmas markets in Germany and offers a comprehensive range of traditional and modern Christmas decorations, local handicrafts from the Ore mountains and other interesting gift ideas. Of course, there’s also plenty of appetising food and drink on offer. Try some of the typical Frankfurt specialities: Hot apple juice instead of mulled wine and ‘Bethmännchen’ instead of gingerbread. Kids can look forward to rides on the carousel and a visit from Father Christmas. All of course against a background of artistic and musical entertainment.
Sachsenhäuser Christmas Market
The Christmas market by the Goetheturm tower in the Sachsenhausen district is not quite such a huge affair. That said, it still has everything you could wish to find. This slightly more intimate Christmas market in Frankfurt’s Sachsenhausen district offers traditional yeast dumplings, mulled wine or apple juice, steaming hotpots and Christmas souvenirs and carousels. From the end of November, you can spend many happy hours here with family and friends.
Rosa Christmas Market
One alternative to the classic Christmas market can be found at Rosa Christmas market on Friedrich-Stoltze-Platz. Equally central but not quite so big, Rosa Christmas market is an especially popular meeting place for the LGBTQ community. The highlight here are the decorations, where the traditional colors of red and green are replaced by pink. With live music, outstanding cheese fondue and a colorful mix of visitors, you can have a great time here in November and December.
