1. Norway's Cave Paradise

If you are a cave enthusiast, we recommend a trip to Salten to explore some of the largest and most beautiful caves in Scandinavia, each with different formations and sizes.

Svarthammarhola is Scandinavia's largest cave, offering beautiful stalactite formations, small underground rivers, waterfalls, and small lakes. Inside the cave, silence reigns, making it a place where even the smallest steps echo. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience suitable for all ages. All you need is a headlamp and proper shoes. With an experienced guide, which can be booked through several local operators, you are now ready to explore the secrets of Svarthammarhola.

Two other popular caves in the area are Vikgrotta - a beautiful marble cave with stalactites and waterfalls, and Aspfjordgrotta. The latter is for the adventurous, as it involves both rappelling and labyrinths.

2. RIB at Saltstraumen

The world's strongest tidal current is just outside Bodø and can be experienced through various activities - RIB safari, fishing trips, sea eagle safaris, and diving. Saltstraumen is a well-known fishing paradise for sea anglers, with plenty of saithe, cod, catfish, and halibut. Every six hours, these extremely strong currents occur, where enormous volumes of water pass through the narrow strait between Saltfjorden and Skjerstadfjorden at speeds of up to 20 knots. Here, you can also see whirlpools up to 10 meters in diameter and 5 meters deep.

Despite this, you can dive and snorkel in Saltstraumen for most of the day. The area is one of the most spectacular diving spots in Europe.

3. Mountain Hikes in Bodø and Salten

The mountains around Bodø offer spectacular hikes for all ages, whether you are a true mountain goat who enjoys challenging climbs or a more moderate hiker who prefers easy walking peaks. No matter which peak you choose, you are guaranteed fantastic nature experiences.

Among the most popular peaks in the area, we can mention three favorites:

• Keiservarden (366 m.a.s.l.), which many of the city's residents climb. This hike is relatively easy, and it's a short distance from Bodø city center.
• Steigtind (793 m.a.s.l.) is one of Bodø's most prominent mountains, with a fantastic view in all directions, including towards the beautiful mountain range on Kjerringøy.
• If you want to climb the most visited and popular "thousand-meter" peak in the Bodø area, Per Kalsatind (1036 m.a.s.l.) is one of the mountains with the most beautiful views and is also easily accessible from Bodø city center.

4. Norwegian Aviation Museum

Welcome to a unique experience with polar heroes, spy planes, flight simulators, and exciting military and civil aviation history. This fantastic aviation museum contains everything from enormous planes, strange inventions, old artifacts, and great stories, in addition to a museum shop and café.

Explore strange secrets and see famous aircraft models like the Spitfire and Starfighter in the military exhibition. In the civil exhibition, you can relive fun memories where you can see the Twin Otter and the corrugated iron plane Junkers Ju 52, popularly called "Aunt Ju."

5. Experience the Midnight Sun in Bodø

Do you dream of doing activities "under" the midnight sun? In the Bodø and Salten area, several organize evening and night tours during the summer months when the sun never sets.
