The city deeply loved by its locals
Coffee, cinnamon buns and fabulous view
Fika is a Swedish word, well known and much loved by most Swedes. It´s best described as a social event, a coffee break, where cinnamon buns, cake and cookies often are included. Therefore it´s a walk in the park to find a cozy cafe in Gothenburg. Visit the district of Haga that is famous for their super sized cinnamon buns and their cobblestone streets or the classic café Brogyllen on Vastra Hamngatan.
If you're hungry you can find something for every tast bud. Visit one of our own restaurant HAK at Scandic Europa or maybe Ruby Bar at Scandic Rubinen, both with good and simple food. You can also eat great seafood in Gothenburg two classic restaurants are Restaurant Gabriel located in Gothenburgs own fishmarket 'Feskekorkan' or Fiskekrogen.
The park Slottskogen is one of many fun activities that's free of charge where you can watch the penguins, seals and if you're lucky you might spot an elk. Next to Slottskogen you have the beautiful garden Botaniska tradgarden. If you´re in a shopping mood, jump between all kinds of stores in the city centre and on Avenyn you can both shop and grab a front row seat for people spotting. Stay all night on Avenyn, this is the street where you'll find many of Gothenburgs popular nighclubs, pubs and our own Roof top bar at Scandic Rubinen.
Don't let the weather stop you
Don´t worry about the weather conditions in Gothenburg! If it starts to rain the city still has a lot to offer. If shopping is your priority of the day stroll around in Nordstan where you'll find several stores and roof over your head. Feeling adventurous? Pay a visit to Universum, the Nordic region's largest science centre. Gothenburg also has a lot of art galleries and museums, Sjofartsmuseet in Majorna or Konstmuseet at the Avenyn are just two excellent choices among plenty. But don´t let the weather stop you, even on a hot sunny day, these activities are of course as much fun.
