The house where Hans Christian Andersen was born in 1805 is located in the old town of Odense. The house opened as a museum in 1908 and it offers you a chance to discover his life and works in words and images. Explore the universe of Hans Christian Andersen, browse through his books on a PC or listen to his adventures at one of the many listening posts.
When you enter his house, you are transported back to the life of the author – from his youth as a poor shoemaker’s son, through to his struggles en route to fulfilling his dream of becoming a writer, his school years, major debut, writing career, old age and finally, his death. The many exciting exhibits allow you to follow the life of this fairy tale writer, his friendships and love life, and his artistic career. You can also see a selection of Hans Christian Andersen’s sketches and clippings, and in the library you can see his many works published from 1805–1875.
