Binnenalster is not only a lovely place to take a walk, but also offers fantastic shopping opportunities. The high density of shopping centres between Gänsemarkt square and Jungfernstieg is a real treat for any keen shopper. Discover Hamburg’s city centre now.

Jungfernstieg Hamburg

Begin your shopping tour at Jungfernstieg, where the shops are right there. The district directly opposite Hamburg’s Binnenalster lake is home to all the major well-known brands. Along Jungfernstieg, Großen Bleichen and Neuer Wall there are exclusive boutiques and department stores, including Kaisergalerie and Colonnaden. Hanseviertel shopping centre offers a very special shopping experience. With historic monument status, the centre extends over 9,000 sqm and has everything you could ever wish to find. Hamburger Hof shopping centre, Alsterhaus and Europa Passage Hamburg are excellent choices for those on a lower budget.

GÄNSEMARKT

If you head northwest on Jungfernstieg you will come to Gänsemarktsquare. Various restaurants are located here, as well as the QUARREE shopping centre, an architecturally interesting building despite its unassuming exterior. Once inside, you'll at once marvel at the size of this shopping centre. Some 90 boutiques and shops are located in various buildings, selling something for every taste.

SCHANZENVIERTEL

If you leave Gänsemarkt square and head west, you can follow Hauptstraße until you reach the relaxed Karolinenviertel district. Here you can exchange the tourist hustle and bustle for small boutiques in quiet streets. Luxurious and exclusive, or individual and alternative: these attractive shops are the perfect place to linger and browse. Just a short distance away is the famous Sternschanze district with its equally alternative scene. Cool record shops, second-hand stores, bars and cafes make a pleasant change from Hamburg’s main tourist spots.

MÖNCKEBERGSTRASSE

Big department stores, global brands and independent shops. Mönkebergstraße runs between the main railway station and the Town Hall District. If offers everything you need for a successful shopping trip. Levantehaus luxury department store is definitely well worth a visit. The world’s first Steiff gallery is also located in this arcade . Goldsmiths, jewellers, extravagant fashion and a rich and varied selection of restaurants complete the range on offer.
