The old state prison in Horsens is now a cultural institution. The prison gives you a unique look into prison life over the course of 153 years, when the state prison housed all kinds of lawbreakers and criminals. The museum includes the world's largest prison collection with over 10,000 items, which together tell the story of the inmates and staff.
Since 2006, intensive work has taken place to transform the prison into a museum, giving visitors the opportunity to view prison life from both the prisoners' and staff's point of view. Tours through the historic buildings, various sound clips from authentic prison staff, and the special atmosphere at Horsens State Prison make this a highly unique experience.
